Recommended Interventions and Treatments

Treatment of the oppositional defiant disorder is multimodal and should involve the patient, family, school, and community.

Treatment modalities include:

Parent Management Training

Individual Child Therapy

School-Based Interventions

Family Therapy

When it comes to ODD, it's critical to start intervening as soon as possible. ODD can turn into a behavioral disorder if not treated properly (Ghosh, Ray, & Basu, 2017).

Cognitive Problem-Solving Skills Therapy

Children will learn to handle specific ODD symptoms as well as recognize and solve problems that develop as a result of having ODD.

While medication is not recommended as a stand-alone treatment for ODD, it may be necessary to alleviate the symptoms of other coexisting conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, or mood disorders.
